Kitchen Remodelling-Step By Step Guide?

I am in a process of remodelling my kitchen as economical and practical as possible. I WANT THE WALLS TILED AND HAVE NEW TILE FLOOR INSTALLED. I wanted my sink and oven moved to a different part of the kitchen and I had someone moved the plumbing and gas line. Walls were already patched and sanded and are ready to be painted. Now, where to I go from here. When do I need to buy the floor and wall tiles, wall cabinets, sink base, faucet, sink and countertop like granite, silestone, etc… I am so confused and don’t know what needs to be done next. Can someone tell me step by step what to do, please? Thank you.

Finish the walls, at least the painting, so you don’t get it on your new flooring. Then install your flor tiles. If the wall tiles will match, order them at the same time. Do floors before cabinets! Otherwise, your appliances may not fit. Of course, there is the option of determining the height of the finished floor and shimming all your base cabinets to match, but it’s a whole lot easier just to put in the flooring first. You can go ahead and order cabinets, assuming you’re done with any changes to the walls. Depending on what you get, they’ll usually take anywhere from 3-8 weeks to come in, so you want to get that started ASAP. Once you have your cabinet drawings so you can see the layout and measurements, you can visit countertop shops and start discussing things with them. Of course, you also need to pick out appliances ASAP because you’ll need all your sizes to plan both cabinets and countertops. The countertop people may want a deposit to either order material or reserve a particular slab of granite. Often, granite is actually cheaper than Corian type products. There may be a group of colors that are discounted because they are used often. However, consider the upkeep of granite. Personally, I prefer my non-porous anti-microbial Staron (like Corian) to the upkeep and often busy pattern of stone. You need to pick out your sink, too, so you know what size cabinet to order for it. Make sure you have the sink on hand by the time the countertop people come to template. They’ll take it with them, most likely, to make the cutout and mount the sink.
So here’s a rundown without explanations:
1. Get the painting knocked out.
2. Get your appliances and sink picked out. (oh yeah, and faucet!)
3. Plan you cabinets so they can be ordered, depending on lead time from order to delivery.
4. Get started on the floors.
5. Discuss countertops, order or reserve material.
6. Install cabinets (walls first) after flooring is done.
7. Get countertops templated and installed.
8. Do wall tiles- you don’t want to waste wall tile behind cabinets, backsplashes, appliances since they don’t affect the functionality of items listed.
9. Install appliances.

There you go, that’s how it works best. I work in a cabinet shop, and to make it better, we’re almost done with a 99% DIY kitchen remodel at home!

Remodeling a kitchen - how long did it take, how much did it cost?

My husband and I want to remodel our kitchen and would like to plan for the time and costs. How long did your kitchen remodel take and were there unexpected expenses you hadn't counted for that came up? Were you happy with the outcome of the kitchen based on what you spent?

It took 3 months….. we did it ourselves and it cost 27,000$ Canadian….

Unexpected expenses: wiring that was no longer any good, having to buy more tiles, redoing the floor base to make it smooth for the new tiles (because pulling up the old ones ruined the floor underneath) and having to make a new countertop instead of just being able to relaminate the old one (the wood underneath the old laminate was rotting).

Yes… very happy with the outcome! We have just sold the house… paid it 133 500.00$ just over 5 years ago…. just sold it for 279 500.00$… I'd say that definitely covers the cost of the kitchen renovation!
